Light Burden

Devotional Journal on the burden of folllowing Jesus Christ

Responsibilities, duties, assignments. Thinking upon such words already brings burden to my thought space! We are bombarded everyday with what we “must” do to function within our society. At times it feels as though that I am on a hamster wheel and what is making the wheel move is not me but time itself.

When it comes to Jesus He speaks of His burden for us. A burden unlike any other and what He declares is shocking to say the least. His “Yoke is easy and His burden is light.” -(Matthew 11:30). What does this mean? It means that what God gives us is never too heavy for us to handle. It means that whenever we experience pressure because of Him this pressure will not destroy us. In fact, every time it speaks of us suffering for the sake of God it speaks of it in a positive light. For one, it declares that we are His in which we can never be snatched out of His Hands. Suffering also strengthens something within us that is lacking. -(James 1:2-8, 5:7-11, Philippians 1:27-30, Romans 8:16-17).

If following Jesus Christ is a burden than I will gladly bear this burden. The gain for being a part of His family is far greater than any form of suffering. The burden of this world is meant to crush. Unrealistic expectations that can never be met is the only offering that this world gives. So, what is the solution? Just breathe, let go of any unnecessary burdens that you or others have put on you. Take His Yoke and experience a burden filled with peace.

“3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.”-1 John 5 : 3(ESV)
