Test What Is Spoken

Devotional Journal: Reflection on 1 John 4:1-3

All who claims to speak by the Spirit may not have the Spirit. There are a lot of voices out there yearning for your attention. All will try to lead you in a direction, but not all directions lead you down the right path. False prophets are wolves in sheep clothing. They claim to speak what is true but when you test what is spoken you will soon realize their falsehood.

Prophets of today are everywhere. They may not be as distinguish as the prophets of old, but the message is still powerful. It’s strong enough to bring life or destruction. You can find these prophets in the entertainment industry, news, the pews or on the stage bringing forth the message. Whoever it is and whatever they are proclaiming we must always do our due diligence to test the Spirit.

It is by truth and with truth that will distinguish true prophets from false ones. The foundation is and will forever be Jesus Christ. He is the way, truth, and life. True prophets build on this foundation alone.

4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.- 1 John 4:1-3
