Where there is light, darkness will fade.
Jerusalem faced a dark time. During Daniel’s time, Jerusalem was under siege by the kingdom of Babylon. The land that belonged to God was now given to foreign hands Nebuchadnezzar; king of Babylon only succeeded because the LORD gave away His people. This was a result of the Jews of the land who sinned against the LORD and forsaken the covenant they made with the LORD. However not all is lost. There are still some who stayed obedient to God. There is still a flickering flame that can never be quenched.
Daniel is one of those flames. Along with His fellow friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. These four men were captured and made into eunuchs. Castrated, a gift to give life was stolen from them. A life they once knew completely gone. A foreign land, a different culture completely. This is darkness.
Despite what they had gone through they never lost hope in the LORD. Even when given new names, names that represented the Babylonia deity. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah never conformed to it. Their loyalty to the LORD never wavered. By this God bestowed upon them favor and blessings.
Today, we live in a culture that is consumed by darkness. This world and those who belong to it will always try to make us conform to it. We are as the LORD declared it: Salt and Light. He left us here not to become the world but to show the world a light that can never be quenched.
