Eternal and Temporal Wealth

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines wealth as this: “Abundance of possessions or resources, Abundant supply, all property that has a money or an exchange value.”

Values

How we define wealth and what we value is not always something that is tied to beneficial gain. Every day we are accumulating something, physically and spiritually. I cannot say that what you are accumulating is something of value. In fact, we could be placing the wrong value on something that is only temporary. Having the wrong value will either cause you to overvalue or disvalue everything. This is because wealth is rooted beyond the physical appearance of it. It is in fact tied with our heart.

Eternal Glimpses in The Temporal

Temporal wealth can in fact bring eternal gain. This happens when we are generous with our possessions. When we share what has been given to us to benefit others. By doing this it shows that we are good stewards of God’s possessions. It shows that we are rulers of what we have and not ruled by what we have. In this we are making eternal investments.

Long-Term View

Our pursuits and drive are for the gaining of that in which we pursue or the result of something we worked hard towards. If our focus is solely on earthly pursuits, then we will find ourselves being short-sighted. Missing the mark of why we were put here in the first place. If our time here is only but a vapor. Such is a short life we all have. Life is not a matter of obtaining it is becoming. It is being appreciative for what you have. It is valuing the Giver over the gifts. This is wealth. Wealth that does not fade away. Wealth that is eternal.

Life is not a matter of obtaining it is becoming

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”- Matthew 6:19-20 (NKJV)

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”- Matthew 6:20 (NKJV)
