Moving from a place of worry to anticipation is easier said than done. Worry has one job and that is to consume. Worry drains away the excitement of hopeful expectation and gives dreadful expectation. Anticipation is a joyful expectation fueled by realistic hope. The truth is, worry and anticipation take residence in the same places the heart and mind. However, only one can take residence at one time, both cannot cohabitate.
Worry The Consumer
If the only power that worry has is to take, then we should be asking ourselves this one question: What is worth protecting from “Worry The Consumer”? For me what I find worth protecting are my thoughts, emotions, and time. If worry took captive my thoughts, my actions would reflect it. If my emotions were held captive, I would be unstable, and my time would be wasted.
The Way
Worry was a big issue even during Jesus’ time on earth. It was very prevalent because even the basic needs of life such as food and clothes were in short supply. Jesus’ way of combating this was not simply to focus less on worry but to divert one’s attention to something else. Instead of worrying about how food would be provided, Jesus said to seek first the Kingdom of God. Jesus was reminding us that all things our needs and wants are gifts given by our Heavenly Father
Great Anticipation
What can replace worry on temporary things is anticipation. An anticipation of something eternally satisfying. This anticipation is not on something but in someone. It is Our Heavenly Father who delights in taking care of all our needs and desire to give us so much more that even our very hands and heart cannot contain it all.
