Devotional Journal: Reflection on 2 Chronicles 1:6-12
What you do is powered by what is inside you. God desires for us to excel in the work He Has granted us to perform. Although, the only way for us to do this is by His Spirit. Everywhere that we go there is work that must be done. How we interact with our family, friends and coworkers is a by-product of who is directing our thoughts, words and actions.
Solomon was given a responsibility that was beyond His own ability. Not only was the responsibility great but it also affected those around him in major ways. Solomon could have ran away from His responsibility as King. He could have covered His inability to lead by asking God for power over His enemies or wealth that could buy Him any answer to His problems. Instead, He recognized the need for wisdom. Knowledge without wisdom is just information. When you add wisdom to knowledge, you gain the ability to solve problems. Now add Godly wisdom in the mix and now you can not only solve problems but solve them in the best way.
You may not have your own kingdom to run, but what you do will always have an impact on someone else. You may think that your job or responsibilities are minor and do not need help from God but this is further from the truth. Everything that we do comes from a place. Is it motivated by love or selfishness? Will it build up or destroy? What is needed for every work is the Holy Spirit to impart wisdom, power, and love.
And Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before the LORD, which was at the tent of meeting, and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it. In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask what I shall give you.” And Solomon said to God, “You have shown great and steadfast love to David my father, and have made me king in his place. O LORD God, let your word to David my father be now fulfilled, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?” God answered Solomon, “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked for possessions, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, and have not even asked for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may govern my people over whom I have made you king, wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. I will also give you riches, possessions, and honor, such as none of the kings had who were before you, and none after you shall have the like.”- 2 Chronicles 1:6-12 (ESV)
