Confidence: Where to Place it

Devotional Journal: Reflection on Job 8:11-15

We entrust it to someone or something. Depending on what it is. It will stand firmly or falter before it matures. I am talking about confidence. In the book of Job, Bildad the shuite describes those who walk through life and forgets God. This person is one who will thrive only to be cut off before reaching maturity. Receiving now what won’t last and missing out on prosperity for all eternity. Fleeting joys of this life but not the eternal joys forever.

To forget God is not ignorance of His existence. It is deliberate denial of His existence. It is refusing what you know to be true and choosing to live without Him. If I choose to live without Him then what or who can I entrust my confidence in? This is too much power to give anything unworthy. Your worth is far greater for any perishable thing to carry. So much so that God, Jesus Christ died on the cross to redeem and preserve you. Jesus has put confidence in you to confirm you your worth. Let Him be your confidence and you will see that He is truly the only Rock we can stand on.

11 “Can papyrus grow where there is no marsh?
Can reeds flourish where there is no water? 12 While yet in flower and not cut down, they wither before any other plant. 13 Such are the paths of all who forget God; the hope of the godless shall perish.14 His confidence is severed, and his trust is a spider’s web. 15 He leans against his house, but it does not stand; he lays hold of it, but it does not endure.-Job 8:11-15
