Direction In Every Step

Devotional Journal: Reflection on Jeremiah 10:23

Is it of man to direct his own steps? When I think about my own life, I cannot count how many times things went sideways when I “directed” my own steps. It’s one thing to ask for directions when lost but it takes humility to allow yourself to be directed.

As it is written in the book of Jeremiah: “O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.” -(Jeremiah 10:23). I cannot direct my own steps. I can try but ultimately “my steps” will always end up down the path that was not meant for me to trot on. My path tends to create more problems instead of solutions and bring more stress instead of peace.

He tailor-made a way for us to live that in this we receive all the good that He Has for us. Although this way of living is offered before us, God does not force us to choose His way. This is due to the fact that out of His love He gave us free-will. He desires that we choose Him and His way out of that same love.

The way is His way and what better way to choose then the God who created us.

Lord, may I submit to your way as you have submitted to your Heavenly Father when you were on this earth. Help me to trust you every step of the way. Remind me to rest in Your proven Word. Comfort me and strengthen me with courage by the Holy Spirit. That the path I choose to walk may be the one you laid out for me. In Jesus Name Amen!
